Our SIRF18 Festival Launch, This Is Not For You, is an epic outdoor performance paying moving tribute to Britain’s wounded war veterans, men and women whose contributions to history often go unnoticed. The piece is performed by Blesma, The Limbless Veterans, professional performers and local community choirs, who alongside soloists, perform a stunning new operatic score by Oliver Vibrans.
Part of 14-18 NOW, the UK's arts programme for the First World War centenary, This Is Not For You is a story of veterans’ fight for respect and remembrance, told with heft, beauty and wry humour, both on the ground and off it, with audio description and signing (BSL) as integral parts of the production.
This is a free, but ticketed event. Tickets are limited and we expect them to go fast, booking in advance is essential.
PLEASE NOTE tickets for all performances are now SOLD OUT, please do not attend without a ticket.

The piece is presented outdoors, in a relaxed environment and is suitable for all ages. The show is approximately one hour long and the audience will be standing throughout. Please note, the performance explores war, grief, post traumatic stress, and features some loud sounds which are evocative of a war zone.
All performances are free to attend and are fully accessible. Captions will be available through app The Difference Engine. Click here for more details, as well as further access information.

'Graeae's This Is Not For You should be seen by everyone. The cast is astonishing, generous to us and supportive of one another, their story telling engaging. The world would be a better place if we all had the chance to understand other people’s sometimes uncomfortable stories, and what better a way than to experience this through this wonderful production where war-veterans share their stories with humour and strength'
Dame Harriet Walter, July 2018
'This Is Not For You is at once defiant and open-hearted. The entire cast are singing, for the living rather than the dead, the choir flying above with their harmonies. Though a moving experience for an audience, the real value of this piece is that it offers these veterans a chance to be seen and heard.'
The Guardian, July 2018
'You go past The Cenotaph and the crowd clap you. It's quite moving. We were waving to the crowd, and this little boy said: "This is not for you survivors. This is for the dead." It made me feel guilty.'
